Against Babylon

Jeremiah 50:13-15 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all you that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she had sinned against the LORD. Shout against her round about: she had given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she had done, do unto her. 

‘Shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.’ Babylon was to be so utterly destroyed and become so desolate that all men would hiss at her plagues in many generations.

‘Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all you that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she had sinned against the LORD.’ Here the invading armies of the Medes and Persians were commanded to form for battle against Babylon, for her time of judgment had come (50:14-16).

‘Shout against her round about.’ Fifty-one commands in Jeremiah 50-51: Declare you among the nations (50:2). Publish and conceal not. Set up a standard. Remove out of the midst of Babylon (50:8).

Go forth out of Chaldea. Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about (50:14). Shoot at her, spare no arrows. Shout against her round about (50:15). Cut off the sower and reaper (50:16). Go up against the land (50:21). Waste and utterly destroy after them. Come against her (50:26). Open her storehouses. Cast her up as heaps. Destroy her utterly. Let nothing be left. Slay all her bullocks (50:27). Let them go down to the slaughter. Call together the archers (50:29). Camp against it round about. Let none thereof escape. Recompense her according to her work. According to all that she has done, do unto her. Hear the counsel of the Lord (50:45). Spare not her young men (51:3). Destroy utterly her host. Flee out of the midst of Babylon (51:6). Deliver every man his soul. Be not cut off in her iniquity. Howl for her (51:8). Take balm for her pain. Forsake her, and let every man go to his own country (51:9). Make bright the arrows (51:11). Gather the shields. Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon (51:12). Make the watch strong. Set up the watchman. Prepare the ambushes. Set up a standard in the land (51:27). Blow the trumpet among the nations. Prepare the nations against her. Call together against her the kingdoms. Appoint a captain against her. Cause the horses to come up. Prepare against her the nations with the kings, captains, and rulers of the Medes (51:28). Go out of the midst of her (51:45). Deliver every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord. Go away, stand not still (51:50). Remember the Lord afar off. Let Jerusalem come into your mind. Bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates.
